Early Pregnancy Scans at Starlight Ultrasound
Early Pregnancy / Dating / Viability / Reasurance Scan (£80-£100)
This scan, which is available from as early as 5 weeks gestation (based on 5 weeks from the first day of your last period) includes:-
- viability of your pregnancy
- well-being of the fetus
- presence of fetal heartbeat
- number of fetuses
- CRL (crown-rump length) measurements to determine gestation and approximate estimated due date
- written report
- an internal / transvaginal scan should it be required
- 2 x black & white 2D scan prints
- a complimentary re-scan if it is too early to confirm viability at your first appointment
This can be booked as often as required during the first trimester.

Nuchal Transluscency (NT) Measurement Scan (£125)
This scan is performed between 11 and 14 weeks of pregnancy to measure the clear (translucent) space in the tissue at the back of baby's neck as part of first trimester chromosomal screening. It is offered to all pregnant women on the NHS alongside a blood test.
If the NHS were unable to take this measurement at an appointment you may book this scan appointment with a Sonographer. However it is NOT an official NT scan but can take the measurements.
This does NOT include the NT Scan blood test.
For high risk results or more accurate and reliable screening Starlight Ultrasound offers Non-invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) at any gestation from 10 weeks.
This NT Scan costs £125 with £25 non-refundable deposit payable on booking.
Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) - (from £450)
Non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) uses cell-free DNA (cfDNA) derived from the pregnancy to evaluate possible chromosomal conditions in a pregnancy. NIPT is a prenatal chromosomal screening test that can be performed as early as 10 weeks of pregnancy using a single blood draw.
We offer the Illumina VeriSeq v2 NIPT and IONA / IONA Care.
Both NIPTs from Starlight Ultrasound include:-
- Trisomy 21, Down syndrome
- Trisomy 18 Edwards syndrome
- Trisomy 13 Patau syndrome
- Optional gender determination
- Results in 2-4 working days
The Illumina test costs £450 and includes Sex Chromosomal Aneuploidy (SCA) panel such as:-
- Turner syndrome
- Klinefelter syndrome
- Other sex chromosome anomalies
(Triple X syndrome and XYY syndrome)
The IONA test costs £500 and IONA Care, which offers the SCA panel and an Autosomal Aneuploidy (AA) panel costs £575. IONA Care+ also includes micro-deletions.
The Illumina test include a complimentary courier service to take your sample directly to the UK-based laboratory. The IONA test goes in a 24-our Royal Mail postal pack to their lab in Manchester.
Price for both Illumina VeriSeq v2 and IONA NIPT includes the blood test and an ultrasound scan with scan prints, and optional gender determination at no extra cost.

Early Pregnancy Blood Tests
Beta HCG (£78)
A quantitative human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) test measures the specific level of HCG in the blood. HCG is a hormone produced in the body during pregnancy.
Quantitative (reported as a number) hCG testing (also called beta hCG) measures the actual amount of hCG present in the blood. It may be used to help diagnose an ectopic pregnancy, to help diagnose and monitor a pregnancy that may be failing, and to monitor a woman after a miscarriage.
Starlight offers Beta HCG blood tests with typical 4-hour turnaround for results.

Blood Tests
We offer a range of fertility and pregnancy related blood tests, swabs and other tests, with a complimentary courier service taking your sample direct to the lab in Manchester and many services have a 4-hour turnaround meaning same-day results.
You may book any test with a £25 non-refundable deposit and the balance is payable in clinic. Please confirm the tests you require prior to attending your appointment.
We do not offer interpretation of blood results which are for your own information or to be provided to your clinic, GP or clinic.
These are the prices for a single test of some of the more common blood tests but different, lower prices apply when several are taken together.

A single, simple blood draw from the mother, and available as a stand-alone test or with an early pregnancy ultrasound scan, samples are processed in the UK for faster results.

Gender results sent directly by email - if the sample is received at the lab by 10am the next day, the result may be available the very same day.

Early Pregnancy Scans FAQs
How early can I book an early pregnancy scan?
You can come as soon as five weeks from the first day of your last period.
What can be seen at an early pregnancy scan at five weeks?
An early pregnancy scan at five weeks can rule out ectopic pregnancy, check the pregnancy is implanting in the correct place.
Can I still book a scan if I have had bleeding?
Yes you can still book and attend a scan at Starlight Ultrasound if you have had bleeding.
Will it be a transvaginal scan?
Please attend with a full bladder as the scan will always start off on your stomach. All our clinical staff, who are all female, are able to perform transvaginal scans when necessary and appropriate.
What happens if I am too early?
If it is too early to confirm viability by way of fetal heartbeat, we will bring you back for a free rescan one week later.
